EcoQUIP+ procurement project featured at the EHMA 2022 Annual Conference
On 16 June, EcoQUIP+ participated in the EHMA 2022 Annual Conference with a poster presentation titled ‘Towards zero waste: environmentally sustainable waste management solutions for hospitals – An innovative procurement approach’ authored by Mr Joaquim Duarte, Senior Sustainable Waste Manager at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW).
The EHMA 2022 Annual Conference took place from 15 to 17 June in Brussels, Belgium under the theme ‘From people to systems: leadership for a sustainable future’. It aimed at exploring challenges and solutions for creating sustainable health systems and ways health managers can lead towards them.
Earlier this year, EcoQUIP+ submitted an abstract for consideration, which was evaluated alongside over 150 other submissions by an independent expert panel and selected for a poster presentation. The poster presented by Mr Duarte outlines the procurement strategy of the EcoQUIP+ innovation project led by UHBW NHS and North Bristol NHS Trust. The project aims at delivering environmentally sustainable waste management services and solutions that address both the urgent need to minimise waste arising and enable a transition to circular waste management.
As part of the EcoQUIP+ project, UHBW and NBT are working collaboratively with supply chain to investigate the benefits of a pro-innovation procurement approach to deliver sustainable outcome-based objectives across healthcare settings. Presenting the poster at the EHMA 2022 Annual Conference, has given us the opportunity to share our pro-innovation procurement work towards zero waste and engage with various sustainability systems across the European healthcare sector.Joaquim Duarte, Senior Sustainable Waste Manager, UHBW
